2012 Goals

2012 SMART Goals!

It's that time of year again.  Ah yes, it is the time of year when we all make unrealistic expectations for ourselves for the coming year.  And by mid-year most of us have given up on our goals.

But not this year.  Nope... This year I vow to create goals for myself that are achievable.  After all, goals should be SMART - specific, achievable, measurable, relevant, and timed.

And thus, I announce my 2012 goals:

1.) Complete my Declutter Challenge!  I will never be a minimalist, but I do see the benefits of clearing some excess clutter from my life.  Therefore, I am challenging myself to get rid of (at least) 366 items of clutter during 2012.  Want to join me in this challenge?

2.) Put $17,500 into my new car fund in 2012.  This amount sounds HUGE, but keep in mind that I intend to put any money I earn from the sale of my cousin's car into this fund, so that will put a big dent in my goal.

3.) Earn $6,000 in side hustle money this year.  This averages out to $500 a month.  This should be achievable.  This money can come from blogging, teaching, freelance writing and designing, working as a "turker" at Amazon Mechanical Turks, selling crafts on eBay, and any other clever ideas I come up with to earn some extra money.

4.) Clean out my personal email box.  Seriously, folks, this almost embarrassing to admit, but as I type this I have 20,450 emails sitting in my mailbox.  I have a very bad habit of not deleting anything!  By year's end I want to have this number down to a manageable 450.  The rest (20K!) will either be filed or deleted.

5.) Get an average of five servings of fruits and veggies a day.  Some weeks I am really good about this.  Other weeks I am not.  I want to be healthy, and so it is time I step up my game in this regard and focus more on getting the right balance of food in my life.  This one may be a little tougher to track, but I will do my best.  And by succeeding, I will be creating a healthy habit!

I'll update my progress on these goals at the end of each month.

What goals have you made for 2012?  Have you written a blog post about them?  If so, please post a link in the comments and I will check it out!

I really like the email goal. I have really just started to keep this cleaned up. It's really worth it to take care of it right away. They add up fast. Obviously you know that with you tens of thousands of emails, geesh lady. :)

Here are my goals for 2012.

Hmm. Email. My inbox contains 10,851 items messages and my archive box contains 10,629 so I am up with you! Even better, across all my folders I have 293,420 messages!!!

I do clear out most of the rubbish as soon as it arrives in my main inbox but I think it is time to revisit then archive by year...

The declutter challenge is useful - we will follow this one too!

I hadn't thought of it as a resolution, but I am working on selling the majority of my belongings. Up until now I've only sold things that were packed away, but I'm starting on the things that I see on a regular basis. I'm suspecting that it will be a little difficult, but rewarding never-the-less. I directed people to your Declutter Challenge so hopefully some readers will be headed your way!

The email goal is awesome. I have an issue keeping anything in my inbox- I either delete it or file right away. Keeps me sane.

These are great goals Denise! I should have added the eating 5 fruits and vegetables a day in mine. So important!

I try to keep my Emails under control too. I start getting nervous when I have more than 200!

I just cleared out my email too. I currently have ZERO emails in both my blogging and personal inboxes. It's weird!
